1. Choose the appropriate combination and grading of filter media
Different types of filter media (such as quartz sand, anthracite, activated carbon, magnetite, etc.) have different densities and pore structures, so their interception abilities for particles of different sizes are also different. By reasonably combining filter media of different particle sizes, a gradient filtration layer can be formed to improve filtration efficiency and accuracy. Accurate grading refers to the gradual increase in particle size of the filter material from top to bottom, with the top layer having the smallest particle size and the bottom layer having the largest, effectively intercepting particles of different sizes.
2. Adjust the thickness of the filter material layer
The total thickness of the filter layer directly affects the filtration depth. The thicker the layer, the higher the filtration accuracy, but it also increases resistance and difficulty in backwashing. It is necessary to consider the balance between actual water quality requirements and treatment capacity.
3. Control backwash parameters
The intensity and duration of backwashing are crucial for restoring the filtration performance of the filter material. Reasonable backwashing intensity (such as 4-15L/s · m²) and time (such as 5-7 minutes) can effectively remove impurities accumulated between filter media without damaging the filter media or changing its grading, thereby maintaining filtration accuracy.
4. Use wound or honeycomb structure filter cartridges
Specially designed filter cartridges, such as wound or honeycomb structure filters, can achieve different filtration accuracies by controlling the winding density. These types of filters have an outer sparse and inner dense structure, suitable for removing fine particles.
5. Regular inspection and maintenance
Regularly check the status of the filter layer, replenish lost filter material in a timely manner, ensure the stability of the filter layer structure, and avoid a decrease in filtration accuracy due to missing filter material. Monitor the pressure difference and effluent quality before and after filtration. When the pressure difference is too large or the water quality does not meet the standard, consider whether to adjust the filter material or improve the filtration process.
6. Preprocessing optimization
Strengthening the preprocessing steps, such as coagulation and sedimentation, can effectively reduce the large particulate matter entering the multi-media filter, alleviate the filtration burden, and indirectly improve the filtration accuracy.
Controlling the filtration accuracy of a multi-media filter is a comprehensive process that requires flexible adjustment of the above elements according to specific circumstances to achieve the established water quality treatment goals.
Multi-media filters are widely used in the pretreatment of systems such as infiltration, electrodialysis, ion exchangers, ultrafiltration, as well as in the pre filtration treatment of raw water in papermaking, power generation, chemical and other systems. They are also used in the pretreatment of domestic water, industrial water, swimming pool water, circulating water filtration systems, surface water, groundwater turbidity reduction and color removal, wastewater treatment and other industries.
